Trump announces ‘largest AI infrastructure project in history’ involving SoftBank, OpenAI and Oracle


President Donald Trump unveiled a massive artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure project from the private sector on Tuesday, his first full day in his second term in office.

The CEOs of all three tech companies — OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Oracle’s Larry Ellison and SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son — joined Trump from the White House’s Roosevelt Room for the announcement.

The initial investment for the project will be $100 billion, which is planned to be increased to $500 billion over the next four years. The first data center built under this initiative will be in Texas, and will eventually be expanded to other states.

Trump said it was “the largest AI infrastructure project ever undertaken in history.”

Trump was working to increase private business investment in the US ahead of his second term. Last month, the son also joined Trump at the announcement SoftBank’s plans The $100 billion investment in the US aims to create 100,000 new jobs.

After the election, Trump has now secured $1 trillion of private investment for the US in various projects, a White House official told Fox Business.

As a candidate in 2016, Trump promised to push a $1 trillion infrastructure bill through Congress. He frequently spoke on the topic during his first term as president from 2017 to 2021, but things did not come to fruition.

His Democratic successor, Joe Biden, Signed a $1 trillion infrastructure bill in 2021 with Republican and Democrat lawmakers to fund thousands of projects to rebuild roads and bridges and new climate resiliency and broadband initiatives.

Second, the Trump administration and the new Congress will have opportunities to put their stamp on infrastructure legislation passed by Biden. Agency officials will be able to prize worth tens of billions of dollars in remaining competitive grants, the Brookings Institution said in a blog in November.

Meanwhile, Trump has signed dozens of executive orders since taking the oath of office on Monday, furthering his administration’s goals on issues ranging from illegal immigration to withdrawing from the World Health Organization.
