A white House The official told Fox News that the President identified a crisis in both supply and demand in one industry, the US should be completely self -sufficient.
The executive order notes that the production of wood, lumbar, paper, bio -organism and other wood products is important for Americans in manufacturing and energy production.

Trump’s directive order Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik to introduce a national security check in US lumber imports under Section 232 of the Business Extension Act of 1962 – the same law that Trump also used to impose tariffs on global steel and aluminum imports. The investigation should be completed within 270 days.

The official said that any tariff generated by the investigation would be added to the existing 14.5% joint anti-dumping and canadian softwood wood to be added to the duties.
