Leika has announced Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70mm f2.8 asph lens. The new lens is the lightest and most compact standard zoom in the company’s SL lineup for L-Mount cameras.
Leica 28–70mm F2.8 contains 16 elements in 12 groups, including 3 aspherical elements. It can focus closely as 0.19m (7.48 “) at wide ends and 0.38m (15”) at 70 mm. The excess weight of Leica 28–70 mm is likely to be due to its metal habitat compared to Sigma Lens. Lika says that metal construction molds internal components from “external elements, such as dust and splash water”. The contemporary lens of Sigma provides weather sealing only on Mount, not in the entire lens.
The latest lens of Leica uses 67 mm filter thread, which is similar to its SL APO Prime lens. Leica promises a cool and rapid autofocus and “sophisticated coatings” to the ideal color rendering and vice versa, while reducing the reflections.
