Attempting to complete 1,100 miles a day of racing is quite a challenge (as long as you are not a patient racing driver), but it is even more difficult when you are doing it in two wild race cars and two race tracks which are addition to many states.
This means when a driver likes Kyle Larsen It is said that they are trying to ‘double’. They start their day around EST at around 12:45 pm for Indi 500 on Indianapolis motor speed, and then finish their day around EST at 11 am on Charlotte Motor Speedway, when NASCAR’s longest race-cook-cola 600-a conclusion is reached.
Only four drivers have run both races on the same and only one-three times on NASCAR Cup series champion Tony Stewart-have managed to complete all 1,100 miles in the fact.

Larsen tried to join the group in 2024, but Mother Nature had other plans. The rains delayed the start of the Indie 500 and the same storm ended up to North Carolina after Larsen, finishing Coke 600, before he could handle the Justin Olongier Mid-Race.
Larsen will have a second chance on Sunday, which was 19th in Indy 500. Should they complete double, he would join John Andreti, Robbie Gordon, Kurt Busch and Stewart, who were the only drivers to run both races in a single day. And if you are wondering how it went for them, then you have come to the right place.

Prior to Andretti, many NASCAR drivers ventured for Indianapolis and simply selected to leave the Charlotte race. Some other ‘double’ expectations worthy or mother nature also failed to ruin their plans. Therefore, it was not until 1994 when a driver finally managed to run both the race on the same day, respected John to be the first.
He was a full-time Nascar driver at the time, but he had an open-wheel experience and finished a solid tenth position in the Indie 500. He made Charlotte on time to start, but was forced to start the race from behind the field. He crashed early in 600, but until the car finally gave up after 220 out of 400 laps.
Robby Gordon – Driver with more efforts than someone else
Robby Gordon
Robbie scored five runs on Indie-Charlotte double, higher than any other driver. His first attempt came in 1997, but bad weather pushed Indie to 500 on Monday and Tuesday. He tried again in 2000, but missed the start of 600 due to the weather. PJ Jones launched the program and received credit for the result, but Gordon took over in the middle of the race.
His first successful attempt came in 2002, ranked eighth in Indie 500 and Coke 600 finished 16th. He finished a lap in Charlot, which was 1.5 miles to complete the entire 1,100 mile racing. He successfully drove double in 2003, even though the rain ended 600 quickly. His final attempt came in 2004, but the weather once again intervened. He had to leave the mid-race to start 600. Jaques Lazier finished 500 for Gordon, but since he started the race, he was credited with the result.

The most successful ‘double’ attempt is Stewart. He ran both events in 1999 and 2001. In his first attempt, Stewart finished ninth in Indie 500 and fourth in Coke 600. He was four laps below 500, which prevented him from completing all 1,100 miles.
2001 was the last time ‘Smoke’ ran the Indi 500, again a target to complete the distance of 1,100 miles between Indianapolis and Charlotte. Driving for Chip Ganasi Racing In Indianapolis, he finished sixth and then in Charlotte who finished third with Gibbs Racing. This is the best performance by any driver who has run these prestigious races on the same day. In doing so, Stewart is the only driver to complete all 600 laps and 1,100 miles competition.

Double has not been successfully done since 2014, in which Kurt came from Busch NASCAR. After an accident in practice, Newly declared NASCAR Hall of Famer Rebound largely. He finished sixth in the Indie 500, earning the Ruki of the Year honor. Unfortunately, 600 did not go and at the same time a large -scale engine failure dropped them out of the race after 271 out of 400 laps.
Since then, many drivers have expressed interest in making double efforts, Kurt’s brother, including Kail, came close to getting rides in both 2017 and 2024 Indi 500. Seven times NASCAR Cup Series Champion Jimmy Johnson 2022 ran Indi 500 but did not attempt 2022 Coke 600.
