The best home tip that I have ever received didn’t come from a supporter – it came from a friend

As an interior design and trends writer, I am constantly researching the best home design and styling tips. I am also lucky to talk to some of the best interior designers in the game and see some gorgeous places in the true sense.

However, when it comes to my own home, I have struggled to find my style and bring it into life. I was constantly chasing the moment where I will finish a place and feel that I am really nailed it-Unsuccessful, I will note.

That’s until I found Simple piece of advice From a friend who changed my approach to decorate the house.

He wisely said: takes time to find his interior design style; Trust the process and enjoy the journey.

Pressure to get it “correct” for the first time

For some, the idea that it will take time to find your design style (and practice) may be clear. It’s like something else, right? The practice makes it perfect, or anyway it is close to it.

However, for the old perfection-chaser like me, this idea is not comfortable, and it can be very deep.

Ask any interior design pro, and they have made their own proper part of design mistakes throughout the years. This is how you learn and grow.

In the end, it is important that the fear of making ‘wrong’ options should prevent a place from style to prevent you from starting the journey, which you really love. Chances are, you will not “correct” it for the first time, and that’s fine.

Why participate in the process rarely works

The innings of this mentality helped me in some ways. First, I stopped criticizing myself for “mistakes” in my past; Instead, I can accept that they were advancing stones to help me get me closer to a house that really feels authentic for me.

For example, about five years ago, my husband and I completed a large primary bedroom renewal in my new house. At that time, I was relatively new in the interior design world, and I didn’t know what I liked or what I wanted. Modern farmhouse interiors At that time I was fashionable, and I liked the way I looked, so I decided to bow down to that beauty.

I loved to include bold black accents, due to which the decision was taken Paint a black accent wall In our bedroom, install matte black fixtures everywhere, and upgrade the hardware for the match.

I put the walls a white white, and we installed warm walnut-tond laminate floors to add some heat. Of course, the decision was somewhat imprisoned and lack of complete research.

Today, the design of our bedroom bothers me, and I am already ready to give it a fully developed refreshing (very for my husband’s disappointment). For me, space lacks heat and character, and the worst, it does not match our home or the rest of its architectural details.

I have since learned that I do not really like modern farmhouse design for my home! Disappointment? Yes. But learned an essential growing pain, and a difficult lesson: take your time, and don’t participate in a style, you are not sure about 100% because it is trending.

Learn to be in “in-in-place”

Taking your time to find your design style means that your house may get trapped in Limbo for some time. This idea was painful for me at first, but in fact, there is flexibility and joy in hugging “in-in-place”.

You can use, actually consider things, before you are committed, ask friends and family for advice, and swap things as needed. Perfection Chaser: Do not be afraid of the middle, it can be surprisingly free if you let it go.

I will tell anyone that just starts designing one place

If you feel overwhelmed by the idea of finding the design style of your home, I have gone there. My biggest way with the advice of my friend is to slow down the process.

For example, if I am planning Rear a roomI will really take time to choose my time. I have left the paint swatch on the walls for a few weeks before deciding on the shadow – something that I would never have done before.

I am more likely to test a piece of decoration in a room, and remove it if it is not just working. Your decoration decisions do not need to be final in the first attempt.

Finally, I removed the pressure to finish things quickly, and I spent more time research, searching for inspiring photos, and to see how I want to see my location.

It can also be helpful to take time to chat with friends and family. They can surprise you with a piece of advice or with a hard-stained text that will help you in the long run.

Finally, building a house that you love is not about being right – it is about letting it grow with a thoughtful, incomplete and authentic step at a time. So from a design novice to another, assure me: it takes time to find your design style, so rely on the process and enjoy the journey.
