Today is the National Dog Photography Day, which is a very important day for dog lovers. Started in 2018 by photographer Kerry Jordan, it encourages everyone to post any and all the pictures of dogs. Who does not give a chance to begged about his puppy, after all. In honor of the day, DPREVIEW Employees formed a team to share some suggestions how you can take better pictures of your (or someone else) dog (s), whether you have a dedicated camera or using your phone.
Still wait for them to sit

With any animal, it is very easy to get a good picture of a dog that is still lying or sitting. Usually, when I ask a owner to take a picture of their puppy, they will ask it to sit and try to stop it from moving forward for you. You may need to let it be called hi first, however-I have received a lot of close-up pictures of the dogs’ nose because they fell down to their level as soon as they fell from seating to sniffing.
Use a sharp shutter speed
If you want to play your dog, or even a fast shutter speed is necessary to stop the blurred face, they will not sit and hold it still. This image was taken at 1/2500 seconds. Photo: AB Ferguson |
If you can still not find a dog to sit or get an action shot to move it forward, follow the general rules of capturing the speed: a high shutter speed will freeze your movement better. I have generally set a target of about 1/1000 seconds to catch dogs on this step, but you may need to go even faster if they are running at a top speed.
Go to their level
Take pictures from your dog level to catch your attitude of the world. Photo: del Beskin |
One of the easiest ways to elevate your dog’s photos is to change your perspective. This tip applies to many subjects, but only seeing your dog will not be very compelling pictures. You will make a more captivating creation by low and by taking pictures at the level of their eyes. Lowering can also help you bring more of your dog expressions and personality.
Do not forget close-up
My dog’s ears are one of his favorite features, so it is an expansion shot that I know that I will enjoy. Photo: AB Ferguson |
It is easy to take pictures that only show your entire dog (or most of them), but are worthy of close-up capturing. Extension shots of their nose, eyes and claws can help you show their different characteristics. Even pictures of their pavaprints can give you something different. Apart from this, you will be happy that you have images of images that make them special later.
Get in on the action
Pictures of the best dog are sometimes that catch the simple joy of running. Photo: del Beskin |
Your dogs are still waiting to get, will make photos easier, most dogs like to run. and run. and run. If you want to capture your dog’s essence of having fun, take their photos in the action. Throw a frisby. Throw the stick. Excite them with your favorite Squakey Toy. Or, just grab your dog’s raw pleasure in the dog park.
Hold the absurd

Sometimes, our dear friends are the best pictures, which can be considered otherwise in absurd conditions. Participate in a Halloween event where dogs and people wear costumes. Go to a pet parade with a patriotic or summer theme. Or, if you have one of those dogs who like to roll in any organic case found in the yard, do a favor yourself and take a quick picture before putting them in a bath to clean them.
