A contemporary technical equipment – SMR Project is located in Orly, at the confluence of the rail route in the Sean Valley area. We are in a landscape system, where each contribution to the network of wooden areas, wetlands, or natural areas promotes the conservation of biodiversity. More than a landscaping project, we want to develop a real landscape project. The landscape dimension is not an appendix for the project, but the link between nature, infrastructure and urbanity. Tram 9 Maintenance and Storage Site is a universe where the perceptions of landscape and architecture are inseparable. Located at the intersection of the rail and river network, oriented towards the future site of the capital and “Grands Woex”, SMR Orli symbolizes modernity in the city. Thus built and landscape dress will thus take special attention to users and environment, settled and animated places in future.
Aesthetics of useful – This is a question of industrial architecture, a subject that we have already addressed on several occasions in the studio. How to build an infrastructure building, a useful, technical building, a real object of architecture at the same time and finds its place in terms of a changing neighborhood, has become one of the new urban sites? Reminding the 19th century industrial buildings, the “pleated” roof is a succession of the hangar with big bay windows. This design is also in favor of performing energy of complex and natural light. Technical and manufactured areas are surrounded by landscape areas. The underground, gardens, and the lanes installed will be provided with a location of relaxation from a visible perspective. The option of functional and planted areas will thus reduce the industrial character of SMR, ensuring its operational efficiency. Industrial architecture already has a primary quality: its size. In comparison to what we usually see in the city – housing, small public facilities, offices … – industrial facilities reflect large items.
Juxtaposition of functions – Three types of items are juxtaposed here: First, of course, tramway cars, with their imperfect technology, their beauty as massive commodities produced. Then there are buildings, for which the ferrier was responsible for the marcheti studio design, and finally, the great platform dotted with the rail and technical items with technical items. The purpose was to offer a consistent overall landscape to the site. Architectural styles, in the discovery of intimacy and resonance between building and technical equipment, uses very simple materials, which is applied to their true form.
