Snoop Dogg is set to bring an extra touch of elegance to the final leg of the Olympic torch journey in France, as the disabled rapper has difficulty walking and is expected to parade the flame through Paris ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday.
Saint-Denis Mayor Mathieu Hanotin announced the news on X on Tuesday morning. In French, the mayor said that Snoop Dogg carry the flame in the streets of Saint-Denis before the start of the 33rd Games.
Saint-Denis, a northern suburb of Paris, will be the torch’s last stop before it is transported to the Eiffel Tower to light the Olympic cauldron.
Although Snoop Dogg (real name Calvin Broadus Jr.) is already known for smoking cigarettes, he celebrated the announcement on social media with screenshots of news articles announcing his participation.
“You gotta do it!!,” Snoop Dogg wrote in an emoji-filled Instagram caption. “Will you watch??”
On Monday, Snoop Dogg shared a photo of himself posing in front of Paris City Hall, accompanied by the caption: “U Ready? Paris The 2024 Olympics, yeah!
French actress Laetitia Casta and French rapper MC Solaar will also carry the torch on Friday.

The name of the last torchbearer of the Paris Olympic Games has not yet been revealed. It will be his turn to light the Olympic cauldron to kick off the Games on the Seine on Friday evening.
As tradition dictates, the torch was first lit at the site of ancient Olympia in April. According to the International Olympic Committee, the flame has been “a symbol of peace and friendship among nations since ancient times.”
The flame is always lit by the sun’s rays captured in the center of a parabolic mirror to “ensure its purity.” Each runner who carries the flame, Snoop Dogg included, carries with him the symbolic message of peace throughout his journey.
