Health Canada says some take-home naloxone kits may contain inaccurate information – National


Canadians who may own a naloxone The take-away kits are to be advised check the instruction card inside as it may need to be replaced due to incorrect dosage information.

According to a public notice issued by Health Canada Released Friday, the take-home kits from Canadian Hospital Specialties Ltd. are affected and may contain a “SAVE ME” instruction card that recommends re-administering a dose after three to five minutes.

In accordance with appropriate dosing guidelines, the kits allow a second dose of the product to be administered two to three minutes after the first dose.

The affected kits contain either naloxone in the form of a nasal spray, an ampoule – injectable – or an injectable vial and are used to reverse the effects of opioid overdose.

Anyone with an affected kit that contains an instruction card with incorrect readministration information is asked to contact the company at reminders@chsltd.com or visit the store where they obtained the kit to receive a revised “SAVE ME” card.

Health Canada says it is not removing the kits from the Canadian market to avoid disrupting access to naloxone, but is monitoring the situation and will take appropriate action if necessary.
