The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) was scheduled to start on 14 May to implement the remaining provisions of its “Click-to-Cancele” rule, which requires it to be easy to cancel to start membership. Now, The agency says This will not implement the rule by 14 July, as Tekkachchan Reports,
The negative option is also known as the rule, the major component of click-to-cancer is that it forbids customers to jump through hops that differ from the procedure to sign up to an account. If you can sign up online, you should also be able to cancel online. As FTC states, the original May 14 was already a deficient for that and related provisions.
The agency says it chose to push the enforcement back back, “A new assessment of the burden that would force to comply by this date.” FTC voted 3–0 for delay, but as Tekkachchan Notes were absent by two votes of a specific five commissioners. This is because they were Donald Trump illegally fired in March.
Perhaps on the bright side for consumers, FTC says that starting on the new deadline, “regulated institutions must be in compliance with the entire rule as the commission will start implementing it.” However, it does not refuse to change any provision of regulation, writing that it is “open to amend the rule” if implementing it “highlights any problem.”
