1839 Awards announced the winners of its 2024 photographers of the year competition
The winners of the 1839 awards have been announced. The award was crowned with an international photographer and the discovery of the year. Beyond the overall winners, the competition celebrates the work of photographers in 15 categories in search of professional level and year in 14 categories at non-professional level. The 1839 award is “named after one in the most early years in the history of photography.” While the first photo taken by a camera was made in 1826 by Joseph Nikafor Neeps, the 1839 French Academy of Sciences was the year of formal announcement of the Duguerotype process. The year marked the turn point when the medium was first made available to the public for the first time.
The 2024 photographer of the year competition received entries from 60 countries, including a huge array of subjects and styles. An international panel of 11 judges, including world-famous photographers, curators, directors and professionals from the industry, selected the winners of this year.
