Duoboards: a very useful food photography accessory

I am asked to take a picture of a restaurant, hotel, or food manufacturer at the location, only to work with tired looking table or bar tops, I can’t rely on two hands. Or fresh white linen with dirty large creases. I think this is worse. Fortunately, the V-Flat is replied with dubords in the world.

I am going to be honest, I am suspicious of plastic boards with a natural surface printed on them. How does it look real? I have always made my own, and it works well inside my studio, but the concrete-effect surface I have made is actually the real concrete, so it is too heavy to roam around for a location shoot.

Dubords sent three designs to try me. Each board measures 30×40 inches and is double-sided, giving you a option for two surface types or colors. This is a good touch. The boards are strong, yet very light. There is also an option to buy a small version at 24×24 inches.

With one submergence, you get a pair of legs, so you can make a board stand as a “wall”, and the other as a “floor”, with a seamless finish. This allows you to create different types of environment. Another good touch.

There are 26 versions providing 52 design/color options, including all types of finish covered, including: stone, marble, plaster, concrete, even wood and tiles. I had the French clay/terracotta blush, Iced Concrete/Midnight CementAnd Ocean Slate/Black SlateI used myself the most blush for food and still the shooting of life by using French Clay/Terracotta Blush, and the concrete version for shooting products in which I am reviewing on the first, such as camera, mix, etc. This is a good sophisticated form. Black slate was useful as a dark background, but was my least favorite to use as a flat late surface.

One issue that I have always made with homemade boards is keeping them clean. Oil from food, once on many of my surfaces, makes marks that do not come out. With dubords, food is cleaned without disturbance. it is convenient.

What do i like

  • Available sizes are mostly correct for tabletop objects I want to shoot

  • They are light, yet strong

  • Getting two options per board is very good

  • High-language

  • Can wash

What do i dislike

  • In fact, there is nothing, in addition you want to see where you sometimes keep your light, to avoid reflections. But then, you have to do this in most shooting conditions anyway.

conclusion

If you are building a home studio for shooting small tabletop objects such as food or products, then dubords are a great solution. Because they are light and easy to install, they are perfect for someone who does not have a permanent studio space and sometimes wants to set a shoot on his kitchen table.
