Okay, so I’m halfway through cleaning out my closet, and honestly I’m in so much of a mess that it seems like it would be easier to move apartments at this point?! Now that the sugar high of getting rid of easily lost items has worn off, my plan is to sit here on my bed, surrounded by piles of things I’ve started down the dangerous path of trying, And my little story about procrastinating by writing outfit Items that I’m finally taking out of circulation.
For the record, it’s not all about fashion items that I regret buying or that no longer seem to be in style! Yes, there are some things I’ll donate or archive as my style has evolved (for now, at least) — but it’s also about the items in my wardrobe that are so much of a winner and that I wear so much that they’re completely gone. Are way worthless beyond any hope of repair. from decay to death sneakers not at all for me leather jacketHere’s how I would replace him for the upcoming season.
Retiring: Somewhat Dramatic Poodle Jeans
I’ve come to realize that if something in my wardrobe doesn’t work with flat shoes and ultra-low heels, it will barely be able to be worn. So when it comes to jeans, last year’s super-long styles just didn’t work IRL. I want denim that won’t drag on the streets of New York, so I’m back to shopping for very long, comfortable, straight-leg jeans this season.
Retired: An unworn leather moto jacket
I’ve had this leather jacket hanging in my hall closet for years. I should have given it to a good home a long time ago, but it was gifted, and I In fact Have to fight the guilt that comes from not keeping things, even if they aren’t perfect for me. It’s better than not wearing one for another season, and once I’m free of its presence I can finally let myself choose a new option for winter. I’m leaning towards either a vintage-inspired aviator style, or something cropped and collared.
Retiring: My Beat-Up Adidas Sambas
The condition of my Sambas is very bad. Not only the OG white-and-navy pair I first bought, but my all-cream pair are also looking a little worse (and those are supposed to be my good pairs). I’m still a fan of low, retro styles, so I’ll try something similar – at the moment, I’m thinking I’ll add a black style to the mix.
Retired: A comically oversized black blazer
I love a laid-back blazer, but there’s one in my wardrobe that has a Little Taken too far with the whole oversized silhouette. I’ve recently become more into cropped, collarless styles (mine is a New Zealand brand). Harris Tapper), but I also have my eye on some other silhouettes that fit at the waist.
Retiring: Some much-loved cashmere knits
I have to tell you. In fact Get my money’s worth from my cashmere knits. There are a few couples that I have to admit have finally given up the ghost. They have been razored so many times to remove the pilling that in some places they are almost visible. My favorite black crewneck is a mess, but will make a nice underlayer when it freezes, so it packs with my thermal underwear. In the meantime, I’m looking for some sweaters and cardigans to fill the void.
