Chick-fil-A plans to launch streaming service with original shows, reports say – National


Fast food giant Chick-fil-A has made waves following new reports claiming the company is working to expand its chicken sandwich and waffle fries empire into the entertainment space.

Chick-fil-A appears to be moving quickly to create its own streaming platform with a slate of original and licensed content, Variety And Deadline reported on Wednesday.

The service won’t be limited to chick flicks. The company is reportedly in talks with various Hollywood production companies to create “original, mostly unscripted, family-friendly shows.”

Variety reported that Chick-fil-A has already landed a game show from Glassman Media (creators of The wall) and a 10-episode series from talent company Sugar23, whose CEO Michael Sugar produced the film Highlight and the show 13 reasons why.

Reports about the Chick-fil-A streaming platform have come as an unexpected bombshell to many skeptics on social media.

“I like some Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, but what do they know about streaming?” one skeptic posted on X.

Some joked that the Chick-fil-A streaming platform would not operate on Sundays, since the restaurant has historically closed that day because the company’s Christian founder observe the sabbathwho maintains that Sunday is dedicated to rest and worship.

Many other critics have pointed to Chick-fil-A’s past donations to anti-LGBTQ2 organizations and questioned whether the brand’s streaming platform would also be centered around Christianity. (Chick-fil-A said in 2019 that it would stop donations to the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, both of which have condemned homosexuality.)

The entertainment space, especially streaming, is incredibly competitive, but Chick-fil-A isn’t the only familiar food brand venturing into content creation as a means of advertising and revenue.

Companies like Starbucks and Coca-Cola have already taken the plunge. In June, the coffee giant announced its Starbucks Studio content creation project, while Coca-Cola has already published Christmas Movies for Amazon Prime Videoone of which stars Oscar winner Octavia Spencer.

Beyond food, Lyft launched a seven-episode quiz show on YouTube last year called Lucky Lyft, hosted by Bob the Drag Queen.

Even Chick-fil-A has already gotten into the content creation game. The company has been posting animated shorts on its social media accounts, with the most recent one going live just a month ago. The short, titled Rocky pathsees three animated cows infiltrate a Rocky Road ice cream delivery truck.

Chick-fil-A is one of the largest fast food chains in the United States, and last year earned more than 21 billion US dollars (CA$28.55 billion).

The company is now launching a broader rollout in Canada, where there are only a few locations in major cities across the country. In February, Chick-fil-A announced plans to open 20 restaurants in Alberta alone by 2030.
