How much does Casa Monti cost and how to book it

Casa Monti is a boutique hotel that is not currently part of a loyalty or points program.

That said, you can book directly with the hotel, with rates starting at around $375 per night (though rates soar to more than $600 during the busy summer months).

Rooms at Casa Monti

Casa Monti has 10 different types of rooms and suites, ranging from comfortable entry-level rooms, perfect for solo travelers, to multiroom suites that have plenty of space to spread out.

During my stay in late August, I checked into a charming Superior Room whose windows overlooked the Via Panisperna. My room, measuring about 269 square feet, had a plush king-size bed facing a wall of brightly colored wallpaper, with a matching headboard and even a matching tissue box on the nightstand.

Additionally, there was a Bluetooth speaker on the nightstand, an iPad with information about the hotel, and coffee table books. On top of the stand I found international power outlets, including USB outlets, were conveniently placed.

Across from the bed was a striped sofa, a TV (with Chromecast!), a fun yellow pattern visible on the headboard, a small chair, and a small coffee table.

I let the hotel know ahead of time that it was my husband’s birthday on the day of our arrival, and they pulled out all the stops and had this beautiful chocolate birthday message and sweets waiting in the room.

From the picture above, you can feel all the textures and patterns throughout the room… sprezzatura.

In the small entryway to the room, there was a minibar area with a tea kettle with various tea options, a Nespresso machine, plenty of glassware, and a minifridge with local beers, spirits, and other typical bar fare. A nice surprise were some complimentary Italian snacks, like mixed nuts and sun-dried peppers.

There was a large closet in the entrance area as well as a safe.

In the bathroom, the deep red tile work contrasts the neutral earthy tones and the beautiful marble in the shower and vanity. The room also included a toilet, a bidet, and a towel rack with soft towels.

The water pressure in the showers was perfect. And after combining that with the beautiful scent of Suzanne Kauffman soap and shampoo designed specifically for Casa Monty, getting myself out of a relaxing shower was a true accomplishment.

And although my room did not have a balcony or terrace, the view of Via Panisperna from my high, narrow windows was truly spectacular.

What we ate and drank at Casa Monti

Casa Monti has two bars, one outside the lobby (pictured above) and a smaller rooftop bar with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a restaurant on the main level.

Upon arrival, we enjoyed refreshing welcome cocktails at the colorful lobby bar, called Casa Monti Bar. It was full of pattern and texture, like dark wood accents, zebra-inspired print upholstery on the walls, artistic lamps, and a striking mirrored ceiling.

Casa Monti rooftop is a more eclectic experience with a menu of cocktails, wine, beer and snacks (think: mixed cheeses and fried zucchini flowers). Once again, interior design is a mixture of this, that and everything in between. If anything, the rooftop bar shows that hotel designer Laura Gonzales really knows her craft. What could have easily been gaudy or gaudy was transformed into something ornate and unexpected – sprezzatura.

Although I didn’t have a reservation, I got a table outside after a few minutes of waiting, although I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time to be safe. At my bright blue table, I couldn’t necessarily see Rome from a sitting position, but standing up, the views of the city were magical. They were even better with my La Fioria cocktail (18 euros/$19), made with floral-infused Tanqueray gin, raspberry bush and lemon.

For my husband’s birthday dinner, we sat outside at Casa Monti Restaurant, a restaurant serving seasonal Roman cuisine with slight regional variations by Sicilian chef Umberto Tuccio.

Highlights of our dinner included a delicious Caprese salad with burrata over fresh summer tomatoes and basil (16 euros/$17), a simple but delicious Tonarelli Cacio e Pepe (21 euros/$22), and a Gambero Rosso with shrimp Zucchini risotto included. (30 euros/$32). The food was great, the service was great and we had a great time enjoying the fresh Roman air, even though it was a little hot at the end of August.

Facilities and things to do

Casa Monti may seem big in terms of design at first glance, but its list of things to do on the property focuses on eating, drinking, and sleeping. The hotel does not have a gym, but does have the only Suzanne Kauffman Spa in Rome. Sadly, I didn’t have time to visit the spa during my whirlwind trip to the Eternal City, but those who do can try treatments like the 50-minute Alkaline Deep Cleansing Facial ($135/$141) or the 80-minute Can choose option. Suzanne Kaufmann Signature Body Treatment including body scrub and massage (190 euros/$200).

Insider Tips for Staying at Casa Monti

• In my experience, Rome is best explored on foot, and Casa Monti is right in the middle of the city. You can walk from the hotel to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain and beyond. Just be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes with you as Rome can be steep at times.
• Shopping is serious business at Monty’s. I’ve found some of my favorite vintage items in neighborhood stores. But my favorite store in Rome is Superodra, a concept boutique on Via Leonina, just a few minutes from the hotel.
• If you’re traveling with a family or children, the Family Suite features a main bedroom with a sofa bed and bathtub, as well as a second bedroom to accommodate a total of six people.

simple use

Casa Monti has two accessible rooms, as well as wheelchair-friendly elevators (though they’re not necessarily the biggest I’ve seen). Public spaces are also wheelchair accessible and accessible to people with limited mobility.

That said, I always recommend that guests who require accessible rooms reach out directly to the hotel to confirm what is available.

Casa Monti is one of the most charming boutique hotels I’ve stayed at in recent years. It’s a little weird, it’s totally cool and it’s one of my favorite areas in the whole world.

If you want a funky place to stay that’s right in the center of the action, look no further than this charming boutique, with its magazine-worthy bar and friendly staff. And if you find yourself sipping cocktails on that rooftop with a view of the seven hills of Rome, you might hear the voice of a different golden girl, Lizzie McGuire, come into your mind: “Dreams are made of Are made from.”
