Apple’s satellite connectivity expansion plans interrupted by Elon Musk

Apple is offering emergency SOS through satellite and roadside assistance through satellite in the United States, but the expansion of those services faces a challenge from Elon Musk.

The Wall Street Journal reports that SpaceX owners are not happy with the iPhone manufacturer’s investment in Globalstar, who are their starlink contestants.

The main issue is the spectrum right, which is divided into a licenseable band secured by satellite operators such as Starlink, Globalstar, Ecostar, Viasat and Iridium.

Apple Invested over $ 1 billion in Globalstar Therefore, the company can protect the rights of additional bands, which challenges the SPEX -owned company Starlink.

South African, which is currently very close to the US President and his administration, allegedly requested that the Federal Communications Commission rejected an application from Globalstar to use bands to create a new network of satellites used by Apple.

Spacex and Apple have also collaborated earlier, but it was not smooth sailing. Cupertino reached a deal with T-Mobile to use Starlink, but the agreement was established through “stressful discussions”. Officials from both sides discussed connecting the iPhone with starlink satellites, but it is unlikely to happen at this time.

Globalstar has hired SpaceX to launch the Apple-funded satellites in space, so still has to get some benefits, even if the FCC officer does not pay attention.
