big news! I’m releasing a new book! This is a comprehensively updated version of my NYT bestselling travel guide, How to travel the world on $50 a day,
except that the new version is called How to travel the world on $75 a day,
Why new version? Well, because of inflation…and because of our changed way of traveling post-Covid.
The last edition of my book came out in 2017 and since then, Very Has changed. Covid changed the travel industry forever. A lot of companies/hotels/hostels closed down during the pandemic, while old ways of saving money became obsolete and new ways came into existence.
Destinations around the world have also changed. For example, when I wrote the final version of the book, there was hardly any rail travel in Southeast Asia. Laos now has a rail line connecting all its major cities, Cambodia is reviving its rail system, and Thailand is expanding its own.
And, prices have increased greatly since 2017. Not just because of natural inflation, but also because of the surge in inflation post-Covid. Traveling isn’t as cheap as it was in 2017!
Since travel has changed so much, I wanted my book to reflect the current circumstances that travelers face when planning trips, saving money, and traveling to regions around the world. How to Be a Smart Budget Traveler It’s different than it was in 2017 and I want to equip you with all the tools you need to become one.
In fact, there’s so much going on that I wrote over 80% of this book! In my view, this is no ordinary “update” – it is essentially a new book! (So, if you bought it before, you can buy this new version without worrying that it has largely the same content!)
In this new version, you will find:
- A new section on collecting and redeeming points and miles.
- A completely updated resources section full of companies and accommodations I love.
- More information on overtourism and how to be a responsible traveller.
- Completely revised and updated and expanded destinations section including new prices, ways to save and tips on where to eat, accommodation, transport and activities.
- New trips and tricks to save money before you go.
- New ways to save money on housing, including ways to get free housing.
- New ways to save money on transportation (with new information on transportation passes).
And that’s right on top of the usual pricing and information updates you’d expect from a new update! This book really puts everything you need to know about saving money and getting rid of touristy travel in one place.
This book is not just for long-term travelers. It’s for those who want to save money, get off the beaten path, and travel better – no matter how long your trip is. Because how you save money on flights or what gear to take or how to save money in London doesn’t depend on how long your trip is!
