Kelowna firefighters extinguish garage fire in evening – Okanagan


Firefighters from Kelowna, British Columbia, were called to the scene. garage fire in the Rutland area on Friday evening.

THE Kelowna Fire Department said he received several 911 calls around 8:30 p.m. regarding a fire along the 1000 block of Tataryn Road.

Firefighters said when crews arrived, smoke and flames were visible coming from the roof of a detached garage, with flames affecting adjacent structures.

“The severity was raised to a second (fire) alarm, then to a third (fire) alarm,” the fire department said.

Crews quickly brought the fire under control and contained it to the garage.

Fire officials said there were no injuries to firefighters or residents and the cause of the fire was unknown.

Deputy Fire Chief Jason Bedell said the power was shut off because crews noticed an electrical arc between the main structure and the garage.

He said the garage suffered extensive damage, adding: “We are still investigating, but this structure is a total loss.”

The fire attracted a large police presence.

In total, the Kelowna Fire Department responded with four fire trucks, a rescue unit, a ladder unit and 23 personnel.
