Text description provided by architects. The design and construction of an informal weekend cabin is proposed in the delightful coastal area of Notterøy Municipality, located in the Oslo Fjord. The main premises of the location and direction of the project were: a narrow site between the road and the existing pier, a steep and complex terrain for construction, and a spectacular view of the sea with the Fjord National Park as a backdrop.
With the intention of preserving the qualities of the site, the project found its location using the existing complex topography. The program has been organized at two levels. On the one hand, sleeping areas are located on the lateral sides and on both levels. On the other hand, the daytime spaces are placed in the central module, taking advantage of the section of the building. The various spaces are illuminated longitudinally through a luminous façade system. In summer, all the open spaces are completely opened up, and the cabin presents itself as a simple pavilion – a protected outdoor kitchen under a spacious cover – which allows a variety of interactions with the surrounding environment. .
Structurally, the project consists of two main parts: a solid wall made of concrete and stone, as well as a concrete plinth attached to the ground, which serves as containment and support. Above these, a light structure made of wood and metal rises, carefully following the steep slope of the site. Precision and careful attention to detail give the construction an intimate homey feel.
