Lawson also opened up on the difficulty of starting the front leg in the practice sessions in a race, with his own feeling that various situations in the opening race have made it difficult to achieve a good balance with tires.

“To be honest, it sounds like a difficult year with tires, with set-up,” he explained. “I think warm-up, we have very different situations.

“We were very cold to be very hot from Japan to Bahrain and when you are trying to make tires correctly, it’s a completely unique thing, and you can’t really simulate it in a simulator.

“You are facing too much real -life situations, which you are not going to simulate, and I think this year is more challenging the stuff that we probably do not simulate than previous years.

“The car set-up, we can simulate it and I think we have a very good place, but it is really that other items that you can’t really actually work can be quite difficult.”
