“You have to consider the proportions of the room, and many times a typical primary bathroom floor plan will actually appear smaller with 12′ ceilings,” she says, noting that it’s the opposite of what most people expect.

While many people enjoy a bubble bath at the end of a long day, it’s important to keep the size of the tub in mind when designing your bathroom. After all, you have to think about the daily functions of your space at home – you won’t use it the same way you would a hotel bathroom.
“Choosing a bathtub that’s too large can easily ruin the airy, spa-like feel of a bathroom,” says Voges.
The designers explain that when considering tub size, you’ll want to prioritize enough room for foot movement throughout the bathroom while also allowing for easy cleaning. After all, functionality matters most in the bathroom.

Don’t spend a lot of time and money decorating your bathroom countertop in the best way. According to Shaolin Lo, founder of Studio Shaolin, a full counter will make your bathroom look smaller.
“We love candles and beautiful art, but too much decor can take up a small space,” says Lo. “Keep it simple—you’ll thank yourself later.”

“To remedy this, we like to play with texture, pattern and colour,” she says. “Doing this helps draw the eye around the space making it feel larger.”
