13-year-old boy charged with first-degree murder outside abandoned Ontario school
A 13-year-old boy is facing a first-degree murder charge after police say a youth died in hospital after being found outside an abandoned school southeast of Goderich, Ont., last week.
Police have only described the accused and the victim as “youths,” but Global News has confirmed that the accused is a 13-year-old boy and local media the media reported The victim was a 12-year-old girl.
Last Wednesday, police initially said emergency services were called to an address on Cutline Road, between Parr Line and Tipperary Line, shortly after 4pm on July 2 and that “an individual was located, taken to hospital and later pronounced deceased”.

Later in the day, police confirmed that both the victim and the accused were juveniles and that the accused was facing a charge of first-degree murder.
THURSDAYPolice have issued an appeal to the public, hoping to speak to anyone who was in the area of Holmesville Public School, which is closed 24/7, between noon and 4:15 p.m. on the day of the murder, July 2. Police are also asking motorists who were in the area at the time to check dash cam footage.
The accused’s lawyer said his next court appearance was Thursday in Goderich.
Global News reached out to the Avon Maitland District School Board, the mayor and deputy mayor of Central Huron, but had not received a response at the time of publication.
An Ontario Provincial Police spokesperson confirmed they would meet with investigators and provide more information once they were “in a position” to do so.
